- Davide Bertocchi

(Modena, 1969; lives and works in Paris). Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna (Alberto Garutti’s course), Bertocchi was a resident artist at the École de Beaux-Arts in Nantes, the Villa Arson in Nice and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Bertocchi’s research stems from the relationship between music and science and concentrates different sensory and media registers. His works, which include videos, sculptures and installations, have been exhibited in museums, foundations and international art galleries such as the Center Pompidou, La Maison Rouge, the Fondation d’Entreprise Ricard, the Palais de Tokyo, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the Hôtel de La Monnaie, in Paris; the Bozar Center of Fine Arts in Brussels; the De Appel in Amsterdam; the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis; the Bronx Museum in New York; the Architectural Association in London; the Castello di Rivoli, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome; The MAMbo in Bologna, the Marsèlleria in Milan; the MoCA Museum in Shanghai and the Biennials of Lyon and Prague.   Davide Bertocchi’s works appear as free manipulations of two distinct sensory registers: music, present not only in the recurring sound installations but also in the curatorial work Top 100, and science, understood by the artist as a phenomenology of space rethought on the basis of perspectives unusual and intimate. This reflection, an integral part of Bertocchi’s creative process, can be found in ‘Spazio’, an installation in progress consisting of 2500 images representing non-existent planets and galaxies (clear reference to the limited human knowledge of the universe) and in the curatorial project ‘Zodiaco’, inspired by the homonymous exhibition by Gino De Dominicis.   Solo shows (selection): Centre Pompidou, Metz (2020); spazio Mars, Milan (2019);  Art-O-Rama, Marseille (2019); Istituto italiano di cultura, Bruxelles (2015); Maison du Livre et du Son, Vileurbane (2011); National Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucarest (2010); White Box, New York (2009); Centre international d’accueil et d’échanges des Récollets, Parigi (2009); Palais de Tokyo, Parigi (2005); Centre Pompidou (video programma) (2004).    Group shows (selection): Hidden Display, MAMbo, Bologna (October 2020; Objets Magiques, La maison de l’ours, Parigi (2019); Le temps de l’île, MUCEM, Marseille, (2019); Où Va l’Esprit + Top 100 vol.7. espace Stalingrad, Paris (2018); WunderMoRE, Museo MAXXI, Roma (2018); Greffes, Beatrice Burati Anderson, Venezia (2018); Greffes, Villa Medici, Roma (2017); Nuit Blanche, Villa Medici, Roma (2016); The Vedettes Show Boat, La Monnaie, Parigi (2016); recto / verso, Fondation Vuitton, Parigi (2015); Nuit Blanche, Parigi (2013); Retour à l’intime, La Maison Rouge, Parigi (2012); Flea Market di Rob Pruitt, La Monnaie, Parigi (2012); Biennal de Lyon (2009; 2007); La tentation de l’espace, Espace Luis Vuitton, Parigi (2007); Code Unknown, Palais de Tokyo, Parigi (2004).
